One of the most elusive late-‘90s parallels in the Albert Belle universe, the 1997 Donruss Preferred Precious Metals Gold is limited to just 100 copies and features a true metallic gold finish —it’s printed on 1 gram of fine 24k gold (99.9%).
This card is graded PSA 8, a Pop 1 with only two higher (a 9 and a 10). It’s one of the best-known examples of this ultra-premium issue. Belle is shown in his White Sox uniform against a striking gold background, part of Donruss’s short-lived but groundbreaking Precious Metals program that preceded the PMG boom.
I also own a raw copy of this card, making this one of the few 1-of-100 chases with true collector redundancy—graded and ungraded side by side.
Gold on gold. Grail on grail. Belle doesn’t miss.
